I find that rather than complaining about the iPhone's poor battery life, I prefer to do something about it. This is why my iPhone is almost always rocking with a magnetic power bank attached.

But while there are a lot of really good magnetic power banks out there, I've never been totally happy with any of them. They're too big or bulky, the MagSafe is weak, and the design is uncomfortable to hold.

The NW5000 is a 5,000mAh/19.25Wh power bank. It's small, but as I've come to appreciate, this is the sweet spot when it comes to having a low-drag magnetic power bank. As much as I like having a 10,000mAh pack, they're rather bit to be dangling off an iPhone all day.

For the wireless charger, the pack is a Qi2 pad, so it can push out 5W, 7.5W, 10W, and 15W of power, depending on the phone it's attached to. 

There's also a USB-C port on the bottom, which can be used to charge the power bank and charge other devices using a cable. The port supports both QC and PD fast charging protocols, allowing compatible devices to be charged at up to 20W. It can also handle low-current devices such as smartwatches and earbuds without cutting off.

The NW5000 also supports pass-through charging, so it can wirelessly charge a phone while it is being charged via the USB-C port. I like this feature because it's a great way to recharge the phone and power bank overnight.

Like quite a few other Nitecore power banks I've tested and reviewed, this one is ultrathin (0.42 inch/10.6 mm) and ultralight (4.23 oz/120 g). It is clad in carbon fiber that's stylish, fingerprint-resistant, highly durable, and resistant to corrosion and wear. The corners are nicely rounded on the unit so they don't dig into flesh, pockets, or through the delicate fabric of your backpack.

Along with all the usual electrical protections for overcharging, over discharging, overvoltage, short-circuits and high temperatures, the pack is also rated IPX5 for water-proofing (dust proofing is not rated, and it is protected against water sprays and splashes but cannot be fully submerged in water), so it's the perfect companion for all your adventures into the wilderness. 

It's also tested to UN 38.3 and under 100Wh in capacity, so it's OK for airline travel. 

's buying advice

At$70, theNitecore NW5000 isn't cheap, but those cheaper magnetic power banks always have a catch or a compromise that you're coming up against. This power bank is what I've been waiting for, and the closest thing to giving my iPhone a battery upgrade, and all I need to do is snap the power bank on the back of it!
